Joyo jalu (Orthomorpha beaumontii)

Joyo jalu (Orthomorpha beaumontii) is a species of millipede belonging to the family Paradoxosomatidae. It is a spiny creature, measuring 33–50 mm in length and 2.7–4.4 mm in width. Its body is black with prominent, raised segments, black legs, and black lateral projections (paraterga) that terminate in copper-colored spines. It inhabits thickets, forests, agricultural land, and areas that have undergone human disturbance.

O. beaumontii features a black exterior with copper-colored, spiny lateral projections. Its head is conventional in shape with a smooth vertex (top surface) and often turns from side to side as the animal moves. The antennae are black, long, and segmented; they remain actively in motion while the millipede walks.



The legs are long, slender, and multi-segmented, ending in pointed tips. They lack pads, appear slightly thickened in the middle, are adorned with small spines, and are black in color.

The body segments are clearly demarcated. Each segment consists of three parts: a wider, tubular section featuring a transverse ridge, with a pair of spines extending from the sides. These spines are located on the thickened outer edges; they are copper-colored and possess sharp, pointed tips.

The areas between the segment joints are narrower, flatter, and smooth. The final segment is smaller, bearing smaller spines, and terminates in a pointed, copper-colored tail section.
