Pundak scoliid (Scolia clypeata) is a species of wasp belonging to the family Scoliidae. Measuring 16–22 mm in length, it has an elongated body, bluish-black wings, a rounded head, and long legs. These wasps typically spend their time perched on foliage in shaded areas, such as within thickets, among trees in forests, or on agricultural land.
S. clypeata features a rounded, red head with a pair of large, black eyes. It possesses long, segmented, red antennae that have black bases and blunt tips. The neck region is narrow and black.
The dorsal (back) area is dark brown with a rough texture. On the "shoulders"—the anterior section on both the left and right sides—there are distinct red markings. The abdomen is elongated and cylindrical, covered in long hairs, and terminates in a teardrop-shaped, glossy black tip.
The insect has a pair of elongated, rounded-tipped wings characterized by an intricate network of veins; these wings are glossy and bluish-black, folding over to cover the entire abdomen when the wasp is at rest. Its legs are composed of several segments and are covered in long hairs.
These wasps inhabit forests and agricultural landscapes. They tend to be solitary and spend most of their time perched on the leaves of low-lying shrubs or medium-sized trees in shaded environments.
