Tom bluehearts (Buchnera tomentosa) is a species of plant in the Orobanchaceae, a low shrub with erect stems, reddish green in color, fan-blossoms with a white or purple or bluish color appearing in rows on the tips of the stems, growing on limestone cliffs and dry landscapes.
B. tomentosa has an erect stem, about 30 cm high, cylindrical, reddish green and white hair. The flowers grow in a row at the end of the stem, five ears, white or bluish or purple in color and the buds are purple in color.
Leaves sit in rows along the stem, elongated in shape, a bone in the middle and several sideways veins, pointed tips and bases, green or red or purple and white hair. The leaves grow up to the top of the stem and have a smaller and slender size.
Tom bluehearts are drought tolerant and exposed to strong winds, growing in tenuous colonies on the slopes of limestone cliffs, arid landscapes, lots of sunshine, abandoned lands. Flowers are pollinated by butterflies, bees and ants.
