Common pierrot (Castalius rosimon)

Common pierrot (Castalius rosimon) is a species of butterfly belonging to the family Lycaenidae. These small butterflies feature wings that are predominantly white with black spots, while the margins are adorned with a black band in a curved, zig-zag pattern. On the hindwings, there is a thin, black tail tipped with white.

C. rosimon has black antennae marked with rings and white tips. The males have a white head, including the area between the eyes. Their palpi, thorax, and abdomen are white, featuring alternating black patterns bordered by white along the sides.

Females resemble the males but exhibit broader black markings across both the upper and lower surfaces of their bodies. These butterflies typically spend much of their time among shrubs, along riverbanks, and in open forest areas within karst ecosystems that receive ample sunlight.
