Juniper haircap moss (Polytrichum juniperinum) is a species of moss in the Polytrichaceae, the leaves are lanceolate, spread upright when dry and bloom when moist, grow thinly to form braided mats and individuals are barely closely related.
P. juniperinum has a well-developed system of small tubes for carrying water from the rhizoids to the leaves, resembling systems that have evolved in vascular plants such as ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms.
Juniper haircap moss grows in a variety of habitats but is most commonly found in mineral soils, topsoil, rocks, stumps, roadsides and open woodland. This moss is also found growing in damp wood and other damp places such as river banks.
