Dear dewflower (Murdannia japonica) is a species of plant in the Commelinaceae, herbaceous perennial, fibrous roots, short main stem, lush stems emerging from the base of the main stem, erect, up to 50 cm high, growing in moist forests, forest boundaries, shrubs, roadsides with elevation 200-2000 meters.

M. japonica has several leaves that grow on the main stem, basal and rosulate. Leaf blade elliptical narrow, 8-15 cm long, 2-5 cm wide, glabrous, wavy edge, pointed tip and green.

Inflorescences in terminal panicles with long stalks, straight, branching, dark green and red. The elliptical sepals are narrow and 0.5-6 mm long. Flowers are purple or blue or white and ovate.

Capsule ellipsoid, trigonous, 5x4 mm, blunt at both ends. Seeds with 2-4 per valve, uniseriate, brown-gray and tetragonal. Flowers bloom in May-July or August-September.
